If you thought that the wedding speech was the only thing that was important when introducing the newlyweds, than you guessed wrong. Wedding toast are of extreme importance too. Also, do not think that wedding speeches and wedding toasts are the same, because they most certainly are not.

Wedding speeches and Wedding Toasts

Here is the difference between wedding toasts and wedding speeches: A wedding toast is a light and short message given by one of the guests at the reception. The person giving the toast will usually make it in honor of the newlyweds, and wishing them years of happiness. The other guests, must then raise their glasses and drink to show support for the toast. Unlike wedding speeches, toasts are usually unexpected to the bride and groom. Anybody at an reception can volunteer to give a toast to the newlyweds by themselves or by others.

A wedding speech is something much different. A wedding speech is usually prepared and given by a personal friend or relative of the bride and groom. They are most likely asked to give a speech by the newlyweds. Also, no one has to drink to show their support to what has been stated.

An unexpected surprise

The last person has finished their wedding speech and you are now clapping your hands to all the nice things he said about the new couple. Suddenly, the host of the reception, asks you to stand up and give a wedding toast to the bride and groom. Uh oh, you have know idea what to say, even though you know the couple well, and just stare stunned for a few seconds. The bride and groom, as well as everyone else, is looking at you and waiting to hear your toast. Not the best situation for you, is it? Besides being unprepared and having no clue what to say, you have just suddenly gone brain dead.

Be Prepared

No one wants to be caught in a situation such as that, so do not be afraid to prepare yourself. It is ok to go ahead and decide on a short statement to make, just in case you are unexpectedly nominated to make the wedding toast. You definitely won’t regret it.

It is easy to give a wedding toast. The toast does not have to be anything long, and all you have to do is wish the couple what you want them to have. Say what you want their life together to be like such as long and full of love, and you will be fine.
